Ka’anapali Beach Hotel Wedding, Kait and Nick

Kait and Nick traveled to Maui, from Australia, to have their intimate wedding at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel. They brought 40 guests and their two adorable children. They booked me for 5 hours of coverage, which included getting ready shots, ceremony, group photos, cocktail hour, couples time, dinner, cake cutting, speeches, first dance, and dancing.

Most memorable shot of the day:

When I started with getting ready shots, in Kait’s hotel room, excitement and nervousness filled the air. Kait wore a cathedral length veil and the biggest smile! I sat and talked with her for a few minutes before I started shooting. I feel it’s best to feel the energy of the room before the camera comes out of my bag.

After Kait was fully ready, Kait’s father came to see her, prior to the ceremony. His eyes welled up with tears the moment he saw her and I noticed Kait’s father didn’t want any pictures taken. I backed off a bit, continued shooting while hiding behind a bridesmaid. Kait and her father shared a tender moment as they sat on the bed together. As a photographer that lives for these moments, I question whether or not to keep shooting, during times when people seem a little uncomfortable. However, I continue to step out of my comfort zone, during times when people seem a little uncomfortable, to make photos that matter most.

Overall experience:

Kait and Nick, truly gave me space to create memorable wedding photos. I shot the day as it happens, with no shot list, truly capturing who they are as people and the essence of the day.

Kind words from the couple:

Hey Sasha, we just got back to Australia and I’m in tears looking at these photos. Thank you doesn’t even begin to show how appreciative I am. Thank you!
